Okay, I have just stumbled upon the biggest, brightest gem in North Vancouver. Well, I didn’t actually stumble. A friend of mine told me about this place where they make pizza dough for you AND there is a great quality sauce to go with it. I went there today to see what this was all about. It intrigued me because every Friday, I try to do pizza with the kids. I make my own dough (I mean the bread machine makes my own dough) and then I try to come up with some new and inventive ways of doing pizza. Many of my readers have emailed me to tell me that this is very difficult for them because either a) they don’t have a bread maker to do the work for them OR b) they don’t have time to make their own dough. Well peeps, problem solved. I went there today to discover a utopia of pizza possibilities all of which could still be deemed “home-made pizza”. With the toughest part out of the way, your imagination is free to soar with whatever kind of pizza you want to make. Am I more excited about this than you? Probably.
Here is the best part. See these beautiful round balls of dough? They cost 1.49 and make a large pizza. If you want to go nutters and be healthy you can choose the whole wheat crust for a whopping 10 cents more. All the dough is made from ORGANIC flour, yeah, you heard me right. As if this is not enough, they sell all sorts of cheeses, meats, and other nice things all of great quality.

Now if rolling out dough is still too much for you, check out these pre-baked round personal sized pizza treats. Just buy as is, drop some sauce and cheese on it and you are not only done and ready to eat but you are ready to eat a phenomenal sauce and crust.

Okay, now the bestest, bestest part. They sell Italissimo sauce in the jar. This is one of the best tomato sauces you can buy and up until now I have only been able to find it at Bossa Foods which is across the bridge. It costs 2.49 a bottle. Let’s do the math people-just for funsies. If you decided you wanted a large pizza with just the sauce that would cost you (good lord I have my calculator in hand right now-pathetic) a total of 3.98. Add some cheese and then whatever your imagination dictates and we are talking about a very low cost meal for a Friday night.

The Bun King had been around for 27 years. It was originally owned by DoolL and OK hee Park and then they passed it on to their son and daughter-in-law, Julie and Stephen Park. She mentioned that they tossed around the idea of giving it a new name but I said…”NO! Bun King is the best name ever”. I also talked with a talent baker named Vlad who is not only passionate about what he bakes but also makes a damn fine pizza on Fridays. He puts it on a Ciabatta style bread and crafts it similar to the original way it is done in Rome. Nice crust, nice sauce, nice cheese, nice and simple. Go and buy one!

I feel proud to have a place like this in North Vancouver. Don’t delay, make Pizza today (bad humor I know).
