Lately I have been in a season of eating more than cooking. One of my favorite things about living in Vancouver is the abundance of excellent food that we have. What is really amazing is that we can eat some of the best food world-wide for very cheap. I have a very hard time paying a lot of money for food unless the product itself is expensive to buy. My eating journey in Vancouver is based on those little places that serve amazing food that don’t make you feel sick when you look at the bill. I don’t remember the last time I ate at a “fancy” restaurant. So, today I finally tried Meat & Bread, a delightful restaurant in Gastown. Their menu is brief because what they do make is astounding. Less is always more when it comes to a menu and hopefully you will get quality over quantity. Check out the menu at Meat & Bread.
So, my food loving friend and i tried 2 of the 5 sandwiches but really and truly I wanted to try them all. So, we went with the Porchetta sandwich and the meatball sandwich. They were both incredibly yummy. The meatball sandwich has a bit of spice to it and you can tell they are made in-house. They are moist, flavorful and covered with a nice rich tomato sauce. They serve it with a fork because there is sure to be a meatball slide out of that saucy, yummy taste treat. With a side of mustard you can then dip the fallen bits into an incredibly tasty mustard (which is made in-house as well).
The ‘Porchetta’ sandwich is so delicious and I especially love a menu item that I could never do justice cooking at home. I did not ask much about the food, other than “may I take pictures of it?” but now I wish I could tell you what made this sandwich so good. There were crunchy, yummy bits of pieces that tasted like crunchy pork something. How descript is that? You will have to just try it and ask them for me. Check out the menu.
They also sell some of the main ingredients they use in their cooking. Again, simple. The ambiance is simple yet cozy. It has one table that feels like a lunch room, giving it a real community atmosphere. Love.
I love our city and all the chefs and restauranteurs that make it truly wonderful. Definitely check out this place, you are sure to be impressed.
