Braids, Locs, Cornrows, And Curls: Natural Hair Representation Grows In The Workplace

Braids, Locs, Cornrows, And Curls: Natural Hair Representation Grows In The Workplace

How we style our hair is just one way we express ourselves.

A study by StyleSeat shows people say hair is the second most prominent feature of someone, after the eyes. For people of color (POC), their hairstyle choices haven’t always been met with open arms in the workplace — but times may be changing.

This new study by StyleSeat surveyed over 1,000 Americans about their thoughts on natural hair in the workplace and what POC have experienced.

    Key Findings

    • 85% of POC report that they think society is becoming more accepting of natural hair in the workplace.
    • Wearing their hair natural to work is preferred for 83% of people of color.
    • 87% of people have seen “very curly” hairstyles at work, and 73% of people have seen others wear braids to work.
    • 97% of our respondents say they don’t care if a POC wears their natural hair to work.

Check out the full study for a look at natural hair representation in different industries.
